CREATING A GAME SHOW FROM IDEA TO STUDIO FLOOR

The Major Question was an original game show I helped develop and produce from the ground up through USC’s Trojan Vision. From concept to live studio execution, I worked alongside a small creative team under the mentorship of Emmy-nominated producers JD Roth and Rich Kim. This project gave me hands-on experience in unscripted development, production planning, and directing within a real multi-camera broadcast environment.

CREATIVE DIRECTION, CASTING, LIVE PRODUCTION & PITCHING

I played multiple roles throughout the production, including casting coordination, camera operation, and directing. I also contributed to pitch deck development, show format design, and weekly production meetings where we refined the show alongside industry mentors. The result was a fully-produced pilot episode, created with the same workflows used in professional unscripted television.

DEVELOPING AN ORIGINAL FORMAT THAT FELT BOTH SHARP & FUN

One of our biggest challenges was creating a show format that was both engaging and executable within our timeline. We needed to craft games that felt original, test contestant chemistry, and ensure the format worked for live production—without losing energy or clarity. Working through constant revisions helped me understand the importance of pacing, structure, and flexibility in TV development.

BLENDING INDUSTRY-STANDARD PROCESSES WITH STUDENT CREATIVITY

Our process mirrored real-world development: we pitched ideas, tested structure, adjusted scripts, and refined visuals all under time pressure. With guidance from JD Roth and Rich Kim, I learned how professionals develop compelling unscripted TV. This project showed me how much impact a small, passionate team can have—and how creative direction, casting, and story pacing all come together to shape what we see on screen.
